Problems with Cape Cod

February 8, 2007

After living here for a year, I can come up with at least two problems with Cape Cod.

Upper Cape is really lower cape where Falmouth and Martha’s Vineyard is, and Lower Cape is really upper cape where Provincetown is, that little dive at the very tip of the Cape.

If you are going north on Route 28, you are going south to Falmouth.

Likewise, if you are going south on Route 28, you are going north to Provincetown.

Martha’s Vineyard is not pronounced the way it is spelled, it is pronounced Matha’s Vinyeard.  [Vin as in Vinny and yeard as in year with a d.  Anyone who lives in the Boston area can’t say the r.]
